What should you look for in a salon AI receptionist?
Ask every vendor these ten questions. Each one has a yes or no answer.
- Does it book into my booking system during the call? Or does it text the caller a link to finish booking later?
- Does it book a named stylist or therapist? Regulars usually want their own.
- Does it handle multi-service bookings, service lengths and processing time? A color and cut isn't the same booking as a trim.
- Does it book consultations as their own appointment type? For example color, extensions or patch tests.
- Can it take deposits under my policy?
- What happens when a caller wants a person? Look for a live transfer or a message your team can act on.
- Can I choose when it answers? After hours and overflow only, or every call.
- Does it handle texts and email as well as calls?
- Is it built for beauty, or for any business? A beauty-specific tool is more likely to know services, stylist rules and consultation types. Test it with your own calls either way.
- How long does setup take, and what do I need to provide?
How do the options compare?
Disclosure: CallPad publishes this guide and is one of the options in it. CallPad powers the AI receptionists in SalonIQ, Shortcuts and Salon Manager. Facts about other vendors come from their own websites, checked on 16 October 2026.
We haven't ranked the options, because CallPad publishes this page. Each one below shows what its own website says.

- CallPad: answers calls 24/7 and books, moves and cancels in real time with a named stylist or practitioner on the platforms on our integrations page, including both classes and appointments in Mindbody. On Vagaro, CallPad answers calls and captures booking requests, and live booking into Vagaro is in the works. CallPad integrations with Timely and Kitomba are also in the works. It books multi-service appointments and handles processing time, such as a color plus cut with the gap while the color develops. It books consultations as appointment types, and it can take a deposit on the call, either by texting a payment link or using a card on file in your booking system. When a caller wants a person, CallPad can transfer the call to a team member or take a message. Phone, SMS and email are live; WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and TikTok are coming soon. Setup takes about 10 minutes.

Why does it matter?
Callers who can't get through often go elsewhere. In a survey of US consumers, only 42% said they leave a voicemail when a business doesn't answer, and 21% said they immediately call another business (CallRail, 2025). Zenoti reports that only 24% of callers who reach voicemail leave a message, based on its own customer data (Zenoti, 2025).
