ElevenLabs introduced Reception by ElevenAgents on 16 September 2026 as "an AI receptionist for small businesses" that answers calls around the clock, responds to questions about your business and books appointments in your calendar (ElevenLabs blog). Its launch post names salons among the businesses it's for: "For a salon, that could mean scheduling a haircut while every stylist is with a client." Its product page lists legal, real estate, home services, personal care and wellness, and hotels and restaurants (ElevenLabs Reception).

What does it do, according to ElevenLabs?

• Calls and chat, 24/7, with a phone number, web chat and a public booking page connected to the same agent.
• Calendar: it "integrates directly with Google calendar and has a calendar built in". Its plans list Google Calendar and Zapier, with webhooks on higher plans.
• Booking: callers describe what they need and Reception "checks your staff availability, matches the right service, and books the appointment".
• Languages: English, Spanish and 90+ other languages.
• Call records: summaries, transcripts and recordings after each call.
• Phone number: US businesses get a dedicated number and can forward their existing line; outside the US, ElevenLabs says some additional setup is needed.
• HIPAA: "Reception by ElevenAgents does not currently support HIPAA compliance." ElevenLabs points businesses handling protected health information to its broader ElevenAgents platform, which it says can support HIPAA for eligible customers through a BAA.

What should a salon or spa check before choosing it?

A general receptionist can be a good fit for a solo stylist whose diary lives in Google Calendar. For a salon running booking software, ask these questions of any AI receptionist, Reception included:

• Does it book into my salon software? ElevenLabs' pages name Google Calendar, its built-in calendar, Zapier and webhooks. They don't name salon booking systems such as Phorest, Mindbody or Square Appointments. If your appointments live in salon software, check how bookings would get there and whether your team would need to re-key them.
• Does it book the right stylist for the right length of time? A colour and cut, a patch test before colour, or a service with processing time are where generic calendars struggle.
• Can it move and cancel bookings, and take a deposit?
• What happens when a caller wants a person? Check transfer and message options.
• For med spas and clinics: if you need HIPAA compliance, note that ElevenLabs says Reception doesn't currently support it.
