What happened to TrueLark?
On 19 May 2025, Weave announced it had closed its acquisition of TrueLark (Weave investor release). At the time, the release described TrueLark as an AI-powered virtual receptionist for appointment-based small and medium-sized businesses, handling scheduling, rescheduling and inquiries by SMS and web chat, and described Weave as a platform for small and medium-sized healthcare businesses.
Here's what we found when we checked on 19 October 2026:
- truelark.com redirects to a TrueLark account login page. We found no TrueLark product page for salons.
- Weave's website lists a TrueLark App Login, and sells Weave AI Receptionist, which answers calls and texts 24/7, answers FAQs and hands calls to your team when needed (Weave).
- Weave's AI Receptionist page talks about patients and practices. It says capturing appointment requests for your team to review is available for everyone, while automatic booking and rescheduling is for qualified dental practice management systems only.
So if you see TrueLark at the top of an older "best AI receptionist for salons" list, the list is out of date. Existing TrueLark customers should ask Weave what their account includes now.
How we compared the alternatives
We started from the tools that "best AI receptionist for salons" guides recommend, plus the booking platforms we know have their own AI receptionist. We then checked every option on its own website on 19 October 2026 against the same questions:
- Does it answer your phone calls, or only chat and texts?
- Does it book into your booking system during the call, or send a link?
- What happens when a caller wants a person?
- Is it built for beauty and wellness, or for any business?
