What should a UK salon look for in an AI receptionist?
Most salon calls are simple: book, move, cancel, or ask a question. The difference between tools shows up in the details. Check each option against this list.
- Live booking into your diary. It should check real availability and book with the stylist the client asks for, not text a link and hope.
- Multi-service appointments. A cut and colour needs the right gap while the colour develops.
- Patch tests. Many UK salons need a skin test before colour, so the receptionist has to know your rules.
- Deposits. It should follow your deposit policy on the call.
- A clean handover. When a caller wants a person, it should transfer the call or take a clear message.
- Privacy. Reminder and confirmation texts shouldn't spell out treatments, and you should know how recordings and client data are handled.
Callers don't wait long. In a YouGov survey for Answer4u, 37% of UK adults said they would abandon a business call within 60 seconds, and just 6% said they would leave a voicemail instead of waiting (Answer4u, 2026). Answer4u runs an answering service, and these are answers people gave, not tracked behaviour, but the direction is clear.

What does CallPad do on a salon call?
CallPad answers when your team can't, day or night. A caller can book, move or cancel, ask about services, prices and opening hours, or ask for a person.
- CallPad books multi-service appointments and handles processing time, like a colour plus cut with the gap while the colour develops.
- CallPad handles skin tests, such as the patch test many salons need before colour.
- CallPad can take a deposit on the call, either by texting a payment link or using a card on file in your booking system.
- CallPad can transfer the call to a team member or take a message. With a message, your team gets an email saying what the caller wanted.
- CallPad keeps treatment details out of reminder and confirmation texts.
Setup takes about 10 minutes, and plans are month to month. You can hear CallPad take a booking call.
