Quick answer: Most booking systems sold in Canada can work with an AI receptionist, but in different ways. Some have one built in, some only handle texts, and others connect to independent tools. CallPad books in real time with a named stylist into Phorest, Square Appointments, Mindbody, Zenoti, Shortcuts, Cliniko and more. Vagaro is on its waitlist, and Jane isn't integrated.
By Sean Scalabrini, CTO and co-founder of CallPad. Updated 19 October 2026. CallPad makes an AI receptionist, so we have a stake in this topic. Platform facts come from each platform's own pages and our platform guides, checked 19 Oct 2026.
Canadian salons, spas and clinics run a mix of global and North American platforms. We don't have reliable market-share figures for Canada, so the table lists systems that sell in Canada and how each one handles the phone. It isn't a ranking.
| Booking system | Markets | Its own AI on the phone? | CallPad | More |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phorest | Sells in Canada | Front Desk AI handles SMS and WhatsApp; no voice receptionist found | Books in real time; works on any Phorest plan with an API key | Phorest guide |
| Square Appointments | Sold for Canadian salons and spas | No AI receptionist for appointments found; its AI voice feature takes orders | Books in real time | Square guide |
| Mindbody | US and global | AI Concierge handles web chat and texts and texts back missed calls; doesn't answer calls live | Books classes and appointments in real time | Mindbody guide |
| Zenoti | Global | Yes, Zenoti AI Receptionist | Books in real time | Zenoti guide |
| Shortcuts | Australia and New Zealand, North America, UK | Yes, the Shortcuts AI Receptionist, powered by CallPad | Powers it | Shortcuts guide |

Zenoti has one built in, and Shortcuts has one powered by CallPad. If the built-in one covers your calls, start there. If you want to compare, listen to each on real calls and check how bookings land in your calendar.
Phorest, Mindbody and Vagaro all have AI tools, but the ones we found handle texts, chat or missed-call text-backs rather than live calls. An independent AI receptionist can answer the phone and book into the same calendar. CallPad does this on Phorest and Mindbody now. For Vagaro, live booking is in the works.
Square Appointments and Cliniko don't have a built-in AI phone receptionist for appointments. CallPad connects to both and books in real time.
Jane isn't integrated with CallPad. If you run Jane, read Does Jane App have an AI receptionist? for your options. On anything else, ask us and we'll check.

CallPad is an AI receptionist for salons, spas, med spas and clinics in the US, UK, Australia and Canada. It answers every call 24/7, handles several calls at once and screens out spam calls. It answers questions from your own information, including your prices, and speaks several languages. It books, moves and cancels appointments in real time with a named stylist or practitioner on the booking systems CallPad works with, including multi-service bookings, and can take a deposit or payment on the call or sell a gift card. If you have more than one location, it asks which one the caller wants and books into that location's calendar. It also replies to texts and can book by text, sends missed-call text-backs and texts clients on your waitlist when a slot opens up. When a caller needs a person, it transfers the call to your team or takes a message, and your team gets an email saying what the caller wanted. Setup takes about 10 minutes.
Most can, in different ways. Zenoti has its own AI receptionist, Shortcuts has one powered by CallPad, and Phorest, Mindbody and Vagaro have AI that handles texts or chat rather than live calls. CallPad books in real time into Phorest, Square Appointments, Mindbody, Zenoti, Shortcuts, Cliniko and other systems on its list.
We didn't find one that books appointments by phone. Square's AI voice feature takes orders rather than appointments. Square Appointments is sold in Canada, and CallPad works with Square Appointments, booking in real time with the stylist the client asks for.
No. Jane isn't on CallPad's list of live integrations. Jane, which is headquartered in North Vancouver, offers human virtual receptionists in business hours and says its own AI Receptionist is in development.
Not for live booking yet. A CallPad integration with Vagaro is in the works, and you can join the waitlist. Vagaro's own AI, Vera, answers text messages rather than phone calls.
Tell us what you use and we'll check. If there's no integration, ask any AI receptionist exactly what happens to a booking request: whether it books during the call, sends the client a link, or passes a message to your team.
Tell us which system you use, or hear CallPad answer a booking call.
