Quick answer: Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of the biggest gift-card and prepaid-package days of the year for salons and spas, and a lot of that money arrives by phone while your team is already busy with clients in the chair. If the line rings out, you lose the gift-card sale and the January appointment it would have turned into. A plan that answers every call, quotes the deal, sells the gift card and books the slot keeps that revenue in the building. CallPad answers for you, 24/7, when the front desk can't.
These two days kick off the heaviest spending stretch of the year. The National Retail Federation counted a record 202.9 million shoppers over the Thanksgiving-to-Cyber-Monday weekend, spending an average of $337.86 each, with 75.9 million people shopping online on Cyber Monday alone. A good share of that money is looking for a gift, and gift cards are near the top of the list: NRF's holiday survey found gift cards were the second most-requested gift, named by 44% of shoppers, behind only clothing.
For a salon, that demand is real revenue. Zenoti, a spa and salon software company, reports in its 2025 benchmark data that gift card sales are up 20% year over year, the average recipient spends $142, and about one in four guests who redeem a gift card is brand new to the business. Treat those as vendor figures, but the shape of them matches what owners see: a gift card sold in November is often a new face in your chair in January. Booking software company Yocale makes a similar point, noting that the December holidays are the biggest gifting peak of the year and 64% of US consumers buy gift cards for the holidays.
So Black Friday and Cyber Monday aren't only a retail story. They're when a lot of people decide to buy a haircut, a facial or a massage for someone else, and many of them want to do it by phone.
People still reach for the phone when a purchase takes a little thought, and a gift card plus a booking qualifies. In Invoca's survey of US consumers who had made a considered purchase, 68% said they prefer to communicate by phone more than any other channel and find the human connection of a call appealing. Someone buying a spa day for their mother wants to ask what's included, whether the dates work and how the card is delivered. That's a call, not a checkbox.
The problem is that your front desk is already at capacity during the rush. Every unanswered call is a buyer with their card in hand and nowhere to spend it. In CallRail's September 2025 survey of 1,000 US consumers, 42% said they leave a voicemail when a business doesn't answer, 21% immediately call another business, and 78% have stopped doing business with a company after an unanswered call. Hold music doesn't rescue the call either. Invoca found that three in four people hang up after being placed on hold.
When the phone rings out on Black Friday, you don't just lose a gift card. You lose the appointment that card would have paid for, the client who would have walked in to redeem it, and the rebookings that client might have turned into over the next year. Because roughly a quarter of gift-card redeemers are new to the business, a missed December call can be a lost regular, not a one-off. That's why the phone deserves as much of your Black Friday planning as your promotion does.
You don't need a call center. You need a clear offer and a way to answer every call that comes in because of it. Here's what works for salons and spas:
The single most useful thing you can do before the weekend is put your deal and your common answers on one page. Spell out the gift-card bonus, the package prices, the booking window, your holiday hours and your refund rule. That page does two jobs: it keeps every answer consistent whether you or a part-time receptionist picks up, and it's exactly what an AI receptionist reads from when it answers for you.
A gift card sitting in a drawer is revenue you've already banked, but it doesn't fill a chair until someone redeems it. Ask every buyer two questions on the call: who is it for, and do they want to book the appointment now. If the answer is yes, book it. If it's a gift and the date is unknown, offer to text the recipient a booking link. The goal is to leave the call with a sale and, wherever possible, an appointment on the calendar.
This is where a salon can get stuck. You can't pull a stylist off a client to answer a fifth ringing line, and hiring extra front-desk help for one weekend rarely pencils out. An AI receptionist covers the overflow instead of letting it go to voicemail.
Setup takes about 10 minutes, and CallPad books into systems including Mindbody, Booker, Zenoti, Square Appointments, GlossGenius, Setmore, Zoho Bookings, Phorest, SalonIQ, Salon Manager, Shortcuts, Simple Salon, Cliniko and Google Calendar. If you use something else, ask the CallPad team.
Black Friday 2026 falls on 27 November and Cyber Monday on 30 November. Working back from there:
CallPad answers the call, quotes your gift-card offer from the information you give it, and books the appointment. For taking card payment, it works with your booking and payment setup; anything it can't complete becomes a message or a transfer so you don't lose the sale.
Yes. Gift cards are one of the most-requested gifts of the season, and a large share of redeemers are new clients, so a card sold in November often becomes a first visit and a potential regular in the new year.
Write a one-page sheet with your offer, prices, hours and booking rules, then make sure every call is answered, including after hours. An AI receptionist is the simplest way to cover overflow and evening calls without hiring for one weekend.
Black Friday is 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday is 30 November 2026. Gift-card buying runs through December, so keep your phone covered right up to the holidays.
